For Women: Hot Fun in the Summer Sun!
Summer is all about getting away from it all and recharging your batteries. And you don’t need to neglect paying the power bill to do it. From the East Coast to the West and points in between, EDGE dishes up a sample platter of the best in women’s summer getaways. ’Cause it’s time for you to go, girl!
"There was nothing that said if you are from out of town and a lesbian, you go here... or if I go to these places, I’m going to have these things," said San Francisco party planner Christine De La Rosa, about organizing her EDEN events. "The cornerstone of my mission is that everybody should feel welcome, like they belong. Every race and demographic needs to be there and I feel like we’ve succeeded in producing an event that does bring a lot of different types of people together under one roof, and it’s really beautiful to see."
With her brand-new EDEN Pacific Northwest Festival in Oregon, De La Rosa is doing what other lesbian event planners have done: to create a fun, safe space for lesbians to come together for fun.
For those with deep pockets and an abiding love of adventure, Barcelona is the spot for the Girlie Circuit party. Looking for your Zen place to reconnect with nature? Try Ame Wren Yoga at Good Commons, or do a sweat lodge and mud pit at Twin Oaks Women’s Gathering.
If it’s fun in the sun you’re after, Key West is your destination for Womenfest, a week of water-themed events. Or head to the Oregon seaside for EDEN Pacific Northwest. And older lesbians will find their contemporaries at BoldFest in Vancouver British Columbia Canada. Find your bliss!

The White Party and headliners Uh Huh Her will perform on Saturday.
"The L Word" star Leisha Hailey says, "We are beyond thrilled to be able to come to Barcelona to play for our Spanish fans. We are glad we were able to make up for our last minute cancellation last year. We look forward to seeing you all in August! Besos!" The event finishes its week of decadence with a Splash! closing pool party on Sunday.

Twin Oaks Women’s Gathering
Way out in the country in Louisa, Virginia, residents of the intentional community of Twin Oaks spend most of the year making tofu and stringing hammocks. But on the weekend of Aug. 16-18, they open up their land to bio-born and/or female-identified women, girls (and boys under 5) for the 29th Twin Oaks Women’s Gathering, an annual multicultural event since 1983. The event brings together about 300 women for a variety of workshops ranging from sex and sexuality to music, art and movement.
Weekend activities include creative crafts, sweat lodges, drumming, song, performance, mud pits, female empowerment and outdoor fun. Registration is on a sliding scale of $60-160, and fees include meals and tent space. Guests are asked to bring a dish and a snack to supplement the commune’s food for meal times.
