Many are calling the boycott against Chick-fil-A a failure as thousands of people turned out to support the company during Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.

Buster Wilson, an executive of the the American Family Association, has urged supporters to boycot Google for the company’s recently launched gay rights campaign. But it seems Wilson can’t quit Google as he’s already called off the ban in a blog post.

Boycotts: such a familiar strategy one must ask: Have they lost their effectiveness? We won’t eat at Chick-fil-A; they won’t dine at Chili’s. We won’t stay at a Marriott; they won’t visit Disney World. & some ask, ’Why bother?’

Sandwich franchise Chick-fil-A found itself in a huge controversy when franchises were found actively supporting anti-gay marriage groups. After hemming and hawing, the company has formed a policy forbidding such associations.

Gay equality advocates, outraged that a $150,000 donation from Target that ended up funding an anti-gay political candidate, have called for a boycott of the national store. One industry blog says that Target, and other retailers, would do well to be sure they don’t alienate gay shoppers.

A new TV ad from the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org goes after Target Corp. for making a political campaign donation in Minnesota.

Protesters have been rallying outside Target Corp. or its stores almost daily since the retailer angered gay rights supporters and progressives by giving money to help a conservative Republican gubernatorial candidate in Minnesota.
