Nick Swardson - Seriously Who Farted?
Nick Swardson is not a homosexual. He just plays one on TV. And in movies. Swardson, AKA Terry from Reno: 911 and Reno: 911: Miami, is never one to shy away from vulgar humor, and the sheer insanity of Terry (a gay rollerblading man-hoe) supports that claim.
Swardson, who also played Jessica Biel’s uber-gay brother in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, somehow manages to be inoffensive, likely because of his burlesque characature of gay people. Plus, his lisp is undeniably funny.
Swarsdon has been in numerous Adam Sandler movies, including Zohan and Grandma’s Boy, but while you would think his stint with a microphone for his one hour special Seriously Who Farted? would channel those earlier roles, his standup, while not mellow, isn’t as raucous as his characters. Swardson illustrates that he is in fact hetero, a binge drinker, and a real-live human being, which, in a way, is disappointing.
His material is still raunchy: he regales stories about how his downstairs neighbor thought he was filming gay porn, how he got a rub-and-tug from a 70-year-old Asian woman, how he gave a monkey $300 in Vegas, and other bizarre "true stories."
His standup is very conversational, and the fun comes from never knowing when he’s going to slip into a character voice; his impression of women and gay men is hilariously identical.
Swardson is, to many, a comedic genius, but he’s not a standup genius. He’s the antithesis of Chris Rock: Rock, a master of standup, isn’t as great in character roles; Swardson is the opposite.
The best part of the DVD is a special feature called "Nick Swardson: Timeless Comedian," in which Swardson claims to have started his career in the 1920s: the picture next to Swardson is him in blackface.
Swardson is one of comedy’s brightest young stars, but you may find his stand-up to be more Dane Cook than it should be.
