Prison Break - The Final Break
Viewers of the dearly departed Fox series Prison Break may have found themselves confused when Prison Break:The Final Break came out on DVD last month but upon viewing the feature-length extra episode of the series fans will be in for a pleasant surprise.
A little background - during the final season of the series, producers made a 2-part standalone episode that they hoped would fall in somewhere in the Fox television schedule.
When that didn’t happen, the episode could have ended up on the recently released fourth season DVD but, instead, Fox Home Video has given The Final Break it’s own release - and it totally deserves it. Note that the events in this DVD take place before the last scene in the series finale.
Since the men on the series have already gone in and broken out of prison more than a few times, The Final Break focuses this time on Sara (played by Sarah Wayne Callies), the love of Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), who is incarcerated for a past crime.
It falls on Michael and his brother Linc (Dominic Purcell) to dust off their prison breaking skills and release her before she gets too far along in her pregnancy or the various bad guys take care of her.
Meanwhile, the supporting cast is also present and up to various bits of good and bad. Mahone (William Fichtner) is trying to get his FBI credentials back...at a price. Sucre (Amaury Nolasco) works with Michael and Linc to break out Sara. And then baddest of the bad, T-Bag (Robert Knepper) is back in prison and sees his own opportunities when he finds out Sara is in the neighboring women’s prison.
One amusing - and nearly unrecognizable - casting note is Lori Petty (A League of Their Own) playing a dyke-ish fellow inmate of Sara’s named "Daddy." With her manly black hair and dark glasses, Petty brings some life to a prison stereotype as she directs her attention to Sara.
While critics may have thought the series wrapped up at a good time, The Final Break shows that there are more stories to be told.
Since this DVD’s story moves briskly with tension, danger and personal relationships at stake, don’t be surprised if a few more Prison Break movies pop up in the future.
As for the DVD itself, the only extras included are deleted scenes from The Final Break. That said, Prison Break: The Final Break is one worth adding to your collection.
