The rock band (and Canadian-based) Nickelback is one of those groups that has had across-the-board appeal since they hit mainstream superstardom in 2001. While the four-man ensemble is a rock band in look and predominantly in sound, they also are incredibly accessible, which is evident in their 2006 concert in world-famous Sturgis, South Dakota, where 45,000 fans rocked out to the band’s biggest hits. Just try watching this concert on the new Blu-ray release Nickelback: Live At Sturgis 2006 and not find yourself either singing along or even standing up and dancing.

For those unfamiliar with the makeup of the band, Nickelback consists of lead singer Chad Kroeger, whose voice embodies the foursome’s spirit of rawness and lust for living, as well as drummer Daniel Adair, bassist Mike Kroeger (Chad’s brother) and guitarist Ryan Peake. Kroeger has also branched out from the band from time to time singing on hit songs with Carlos Santana and for the soundtrack to the hit movie Spiderman.

Is the Blu-Ray edition of the concert worth the purchase if you already have the DVD version? Definitely. While the concert was recorded in High-Definition, the visual quality of the concert is greatly sharper and more vivid on the Blu-Ray edition.

Nickelback: Live at Sturgis 2006 features 12 of the bands hits like "How You Remind Me," "Too Bad," and "Someday," from their three multi-platinum selling albums, Silver Side Up, The Long Road, and All the Right Reasons. To date, the band has sold more than 30 million records worldwide, and this concert proves that it’s not just the sound that has made Nickelback popular but the force of their live performances, as well.

The extras on the Blu-ray release include a behind-the-scenes documentary that gives you more insight into the fun-loving personalities of the band members outside of the concert stage and their popular videos. Also, the video for the hit song "Rockstar" is included, as well as a 12-page booklet that is primarily photographs from the concert, but which does give some insight into the night this concert was performed. There is also video footage of the late "Dimebag" Darrel Abbot, the great guitar player who receives a fantastic tribute and actually brings more respect to the band for not only reflecting back on their own mass appeal.
