Technically, her name is Eithne Patricia Ni Bhraonain. We know her as Enya, the unique Irish singer whose ethereal musical style in both English and Gaelic - plus her groundbreaking performance methods - changed the music world forever. It’s hard to believe almost a quarter of a century has passed since she started her solo career back in 1987. Since then, her albums have sold 70 million copies around the world. So, if you own one (or more) of her previous 9 albums, chances are you’ve already heard the majority of the songs on her latest release, titled The Very Best of Enya.

As "best of" albums go, this one doesn’t push any boundaries, but it’s fun to listen to (plus it has all my favorites!). It has nearly all the best-known Enya songs from her last compilation album, Paint the Sky with Stars: The Best of Enya, it does adds some different tracks and an unreleased version of the song, Aniron (I Desire). While the album itself isn’t that great of a buy if you already have these songs, fans will have a good selection of Enya’s decades of work on one easily accessible album. For those of you who are not as familiar with Enya, the 19 tracks on The Very Best of Enya are a perfect way to introduce you to her music. All the classics are there - Orinoco Flow, Caribbean Blue, Only Time, Wild Child, Anywhere Is and more - plus May it Be, the Oscar-nominated song from the Lord of the Rings film. Many of the classics were remastered in 2009. Play them after listening to the original versions and you’ll hear a distinct difference. Let’s hope Enya comes up with a new album, so we can look forward to the Very VERY Best of Enya in the future.
